Lynne This music disk starts off with a demo-like intro displaying various fairly well drawn pictures in "cartoon" style, while the first piece of music also starts playing immediately along with the pictures. After a few pictures, we're taken to the menu-screen, which consists of a very* nicely drawn unicorn and a Panacea-logo. The 4 songs are listed on the picture, and we can use the mouse to select different tunes. on this disk was VERY nice. The overall presentation The music, however, does not come up to the same standards. Ok, I can tell that the musicians *have* put a lot of work into the tunes, because there isn't a lot of repetition. But then again, there really isn't a lot of talent either. The songs appeared to me like rather messy, intensive, without the great melody or funky groove that I was hoping for when I saw how nice it was presented. After listening to music disks for years and years, I have this idea that I think I can tell which musicians know a few things about basic composing-techniques and music These ones don't, methinks. theory, and which don't. The next note is *always* exactly the one you're expecting, thus making the overall music rather boring . The exception would probably be the last track; "Vortex" which emits feeling and atmosphere to some better degree than the others. Also, a couple of slightly unexpected turns were taken in the tune. Also, a rather funky bass line appeared a couple of times, although I think it could have been made much more out of. Fairly nice piano-emulation also helped this tune stand out from the rest . The biggest problem with these songs; and that includes ""Vortex" (perhaps especially that one), is that you can't really make up what kind of music it is. The piano-lead plays like a soft ballad. The bass plays like a funk-tune. And the drums play like a slow rave-tune !! What it all turns into when smeared together like this? Hmmm, something quite messy, I'd say, and without much integrity in any of the styles mentioned. Rating : 65% (helped by the very nice presentation - the music alone would give about 40%). XXXX AM/FM
